Sky1 has teamed up with Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais to teach Karl Pilkington about the 7 wonders of the world. Karl claims that they are “all a bit s**t” considering he has never seen them. So in a bid to prove him wrong he is being sent to all the 7 wonders with hilarious results. He will visit the Great Wall of China, The Taj Mahal in India, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru, Petra in Jordan, Chichen Itza in Mexico & The Great Pyramids of Egypt.
“Looks like a game of Jenga that got out of hand.” Karl on the Great Pyramids.
I had the privilege of watching the first two episodes of this hilarious TV series at a special screening on Tuesday with Sky executive producers and other members of the press and public. It is unlike any other travel show I have ever seen.
After a sit down with Karl to discuss his views and some clips from the show - Karl is sent to the Great Wall of China in the first episode. What ensues is some genuinely side-splittingly funny comments and experiences all delivered in Karl’s patented dead pan way. His dealings with the Chinese culture and their people makes for some very interesting moments. In the 2nd episode, he is sent to the Taj Mahal in India. In every episode, Merchant and Gervais give Karl some activities to carry out. I won’t give anything away though. You have to watch it for yourselves.
Merchant believes that the experience will broaden Karl’s mind and change him for the better, whereas Gervais watches simply for his own amusement as he knows Karl will hate it. In his words, “This is the biggest, most expensive practical joke I have ever pulled.”
It airs on Sky1 on 23rd September at 9pm! Be sure to tune in! You will not be disappointed. If you can, watch it all in HD.
